In the past, the world was such a chauvinistic society and alcohol was only associated with men. In the turn of the 19th and 20th century, the world has seen the women rise in the society. The world has opened its door to women. This is good however; some women entered not only the good door of the world but also the not so good one. Gone are the days when you would only see men in the pubs and bars. Gone are the days when women bought alcohol only for their husbands. Nowadays, even women fall into the trap of alcoholism and the effects alcoholism on women has been seen widely.
According to medical researches and studies, the body resistance of man is greater than that of the women. This is true in alcoholism. The effects of alcoholism on women are greater than that of men. Comparing the results of complications of alcoholism gathered from women, it can be said that women are more susceptible to the dangers of alcohol.
Accordingly, women drinking alcohol achieve greater alcohol concentration in their blood most especially when they drink the same amount of alcohol men drink. The effects of alcoholism on women are very much seen in their liver. Women are more likely to develop liver disease from alcohol in a shorter period of time. They are more likely to suffer from hepatitis and deaths caused by cirrhosis which is a deadly complication of alcoholism are more in women.
In a recent survey gathered from MRI results, it showed that women drinking alcohol have relatively smaller brain region parts compared to men drinking alcohol and those who are not really drinking at all. Breast cancer and heart diseases percentage on women drinking alcohol are also greater than others.
The great effect of alcoholism on women is very much proven by the many traffic accidents happening everyday in many highways of many countries. Accordingly, 75% of traffic accidents happening everyday around the world is caused by drunken driving and alarmingly, 60% of the drunken drivers involved in traffic accidents are women.
The above are just some of the many harmful and dangerous effects of alcoholism on women. There are many others most especially for pregnant women drinking alcohol. Competition between man and woman can never be questioned. Women would always want to prove that they are as good as men if not better. However, there is always a difference between these two genders, and when it comes to alcohol, women cannot compete equally with men.
